Laghi Ounianga
Situati a nord del Ciad e nel pieno deserto del Sahara, tra i massicci del Tibesti e dell’Ennedi; i laghi Ounianga
sono un gruppo di una cinquantina di laghi d’acqua salata. In questa regione desertica le acque blu e verdi dei
diversi laghi costituiscono una vera e propria ricchezza idrologica. L’acqua è inoltre presente sotto forma di
stagni d’acqua dolce e salmastra dove vivono pesci, nonché sotto forma di sorgenti vicino alle scogliere e alle
dune che costeggiano i diversi laghi.
I laghi Ounianga sarebbero un unico lago più grande che occupava il bacino oltre 5000 anni fa. Essi
abbracciano una superficie totale di 20 km quadri e formano il più vasto complesso lacustre del Sahara.
I laghi di Ounianga sono stati dichiarati Patrimonio mondiale dall’Unesco nel 2012.

Ounianga Lakes
Located north of Chad and in the middle of the Sahara desert, between the Tibesti and Ennedi massifs; the lakes of Ounianga
they are a group of about fifty saltwater lakes. In this desert region the blue and green waters of the
several lakes constitute a real hydrological wealth. Water is also present in the form of
fresh and brackish water ponds where fish live, as well as in the form of springs near the reefs and
dune that line the various lakes.
The Ounianga lakes represent a single largest lake that occupies the basin over 5000 years ago. They
they cover a total area of 20 square km and represented the largest lake complex in the Sahara.
